Information for travelers who need a visa to travel to Bulgaria:
WARNING: Bulgaria is not part of the Schengen area!
1. Holders of valid common Schengen visas may enter and stay in Bulgaria within the validity of their common Schengen visa, whereas the allowed number of entries and period of stay in Bulgaria should be equal to the permitted number of entries and period of stay on their common Schengen visa. The number of entries and days spent in Bulgaria will not be counted in the total number of entries and duration of stay permitted under their respective common Schengen visa.
2. Holders of valid common Schengen visas who have exhausted the permitted number of entries and duration of stay on their common Schengen visas will only be allowed to enter Bulgaria or the purpose of return transit.
3. Holder of valid long term visas or residence permits issued by Schengen Countries are allowed multiple entries and a period of stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days in any six-month period from the date of the first entry.
4. The above will not apply for holders of valid short or long term visas and residence permits issued by UK, Ireland, Romania and Cyprus as these countries do not implement fully the Schengen acquis. Holder of valid short or long term visas and residence permits issued by these countries will be required to obtain Bulgarian national visas for visiting Bulgaria.
